HALLBOYS
HALLBOYS is a collection of linked short stories about the escapades and dreams of young Chip Rock and his pals, the Hallboys, growing up in the shabby orphanage known as Boys Hall. This Award-Winning collection, when read together, reads like a novel.
In the comically broken beach town of No Palms, California, the Hallboys know all the tricks. They’re fearless of the creaking pier. They dare to spend the night above the cliffs at the mysterious ancient lighthouse, and forever battle the hags at the hated No Palms Women’s Club.
This collection of stories includes: The Legend of the Magic Fishing Pole; Johnny the Atom gets Adopted; Pirates and a Secret Treasure; Cheating at the Boys Hall Fishing Derby. Each story rises to a surprising and memorable ending. They mix humor with humanity and continually underscore the vivid imagination of children.
Several of these stories were part of the group for which Michael was awarded Columbia’s esteemed literary awards, The Bennett Cerf Memorial Prize for Fiction, and the Cornell Woolrich Fellowship for Creative Writing.
